Beginning the 13th February, 2002 thru June ,2002,
The Barton Workshop will do a concert/webcast on the 2nd and 4th
Wednesday of each month in Zaal 100.
The concert will be broadcast simultaneously via the web. We perform
from 10-pm-12(am).
The point of these concerts - which are informal - is to try out
new projects, solos duos, trios
(nothing larger than a quintet is envisioned), to perform small
scale pieces by composers who
interest us collectively or individually and to finish off each
session with an improvisation by 1 or 2 players.
This latter improvisation slot I would like to call "Maximum Clarity".
This term is to differentiate between the collective improvisation
which is most frequent in this
environment and the improvisational thinking of a single or pair
of players, to try and achieve a
clarity of personal musical thinking. It is possible that we will
bring in other players - or even ensembles.
The idea is to provide an open laboratory or workshop to look at
contemporary musical thinking and improvisation.
Like the improvisation evenings which already occur there on Tuesday
nights, there is no fee for players but there
is an intimate environment in which to try things out with what
I hope will become a regular group of interested listeners,
players and composers. These "workshops" have an entry charge of
? 2.30 towards the cost of the hall and broadcast.
And most important:
There is a bar in the foyer.
